American Soldier Slide Show

A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why?

To me the most powerful image is from the basic training in Iraq, where all the soldiers are standing around in uniform preparing for battle. This is really dynamic and i had an instant reaction when i saw this picture.

B. What sequence of photographs is the most powerful? Why?

I think the sequence of photos titled, Army blues is the most powerful. It really shows how close the soldiers are once they are shipped to another part of the world and are away from their loved ones. It really causes the viewer to feel their pain, worries, and excitement as they go off to Iraq.
c. How do the images work together to tell a story?

The images work together by telling the whole story involved in being an American soldier. It starts from the beginning when you sign up, and til the end when the soldiers arrive back home from war. The photos each tell a story but they all work together to express the same idea.

A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?

The verbs are usually written in present tense.

B. How do the captions enhance the photographs?

The captions enhance the photographs by providing background and history to the photo. It allows the viewer to understand the entire meaning of the photo instead of being left to guess what's happening.

A. How do these other features enhance the photographs?
These features enhance the photographs by providing much more background to the photos. Viewers are really able to connect to Ian Fisher and understand what he and his family are going through in this process.

B. In what ways are videos better than photographs? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.
Videos are better than photographs because they give the viewers a chance to understand what is fully going on and also help connect the viewer to the story and people involved. One example is Perry's speech as the GOP debate, viewers are actually able to see how Perry responds and can form their own opinions on him.

C. In what ways are photos better than videos? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.

Sometimes photos are better than videos because they get right to the point and they are a snapshot in time. So, a photo can be much more dramatic and shocking. One example from the Denver Post web site is a photo of the veterans day parade in Denver. We see multiple citizens walking the streets supporting their country.
